Looking Back to Look Ahead

It has been said that those who do not understand history are doomed to repeat it.

We at Corporate Prayer Resources have found that history and its cousin archaeology are invaluable resources for the Church to draw on. That is why we have made the book Babylon: A Spiritual Journey Through Time and The Nations available.

Over the past two centuries our knowledge of ancient history has expanded greatly. We can now verify some Biblical events with hard evidence, such as the fallen walls of Jericho. Evidence gathered from outside the Holy Land confirms the historicity of many Bible texts, such as Assyrian failure to take Jerusalem. Science has now found that all humans have a common mother (Eve), that there was a catastrophic decrease in the human population (Noah’s Flood), and that at one time humans spoke a single language (Tower of Babel). Thus, history teaches us that we can trust in the accuracy of the Bible.

History and the Bible teach us much about God’s dealings with humans. God judged the Egyptians by humiliating their gods, and He struck Assyria at its greatest point of pride, its army. The remains of sacrificed children found in Canaan have shed light on why God decreed the total destruction of the Canaanites. But we also find that God is merciful, as when he gave evil King Ahab a second chance after he repented. God’s ultimate act of mercy, sending us the Christ, echoes down through history as the Kingdom of God expanded throughout the Roman Empire and then throughout the earth.

Our knowledge of the past helps us to focus our prayers by revealing the spiritual roots of the forces acting against the expansion of the Kingdom. Some years back a group of intercessors went to Ephesus to confront the pagan “Queen of Heaven”, failing in their mission because Ephesus is now controlled by the Islamic spirit, not the pagan spirit. Others have mistaken the Freemasons for a pagan institution when in fact they are dominated by the secular spirit. On the other hand, we have seen breakthroughs on prayer journeys where we have understood the history of spiritual bondage in the nations.

Finally, understanding the past is a key to understanding Bible prophecy. For example, Daniel’s prophecy of the “70 7’s” can be traced with historical data to confirm the start of Jesus’ ministry in 26 AD. Many of the prophecies in the book of Revelation can be matched with historical events to help us understand the times we live in. One of those prophecies, The Woman Riding the Beast in Revelation chapter 17, is a picture of the history of the world from Babylon to the Antichrist, and forms the outline of our Babylon book.

So the past is indeed a key to the future, as it confirms the Scriptures, teaches us God’s ways, shows us how to pray for the nations, and illuminates prophecy.

Let us pray that the Lord will help us use the past to help guide our footsteps in the year to come.

And may you have a blessed New Year.

“Intercessor’s Nursery” In Heaven

9/22/2012

This morning I received a dream that I wanted to share with you so that you might pray with me for implementation.

My prayer team and I found ourselves in a place I have never seen or thought of. I will call it the “Intercessor’s Nursery” in Heaven. A serene place, a place of light, joy, peace all rolled into one. This is where intercessors are birthed in the Spirit and placed in bassinets. We carefully walked in and picked up a little one.

Like all babies, they each had their own facial features, hair color, all plump and happy, giggling.
Without a word spoken we knew the task at hand…mentoring the new ones. Guiding carefully their growth, covering them in prayer for this season of learning and growth. If you think on it, at this stage babies are dependent on moms & dads for everything. And they trust to get what they need…food, washing, changing, love and cuddling, encouragement. With babes there is no real discipline…they are too young. You guide them, move them along. We were their mentors…”God with skin on it.”

And then I looked and could see there was a place where the Holy Spirit was busy with an even earlier stage….one of “conception of intercessors”. These may be adults on earth, but spiritually in their calling and destiny in prayer…just being conceived, not yet “born.” I knew we must pray and cover these…that the same spirit of abortion that tries to end life on earth would be trying to end the spiritual life of these even before they could be born.

Next we saw the toddlers of the Intercessor’s Nursery. Yes, can you just imagine ! They were everywhere… tens and hundreds of them, running, crawling, trying to walk and fall down, laughing and reaching out to grow up in their own diminutive ways. I could hardly believe my eyes ! It reminded me of a heard of geese !

Loud, noisy, undisciplined, thinking they know best & running after it (strong willed) !!

You can remember your own growing up experience as an intercessor…can you think back to this stage? I’d rather not remember mine, :)…..but suffice it to say, God surrounded me with several different mentors that took turns speaking truth with love into my life ! Patiently listening, lovingly pruning my branches.

This group of young intercessors really need seasoned ones to adopt them ! Both in prayer & by relationship !

Then I knew why the Lord was urging us to pray for these different stages of growth for these intercessors as well as step up and take some lovingly under our wings. They need us, but more so WE NEED THEM !!

For the Lord showed me, we are going to operate at a deficit of prayer if these are not birthed, if they are not matured to full stature. For the older generation of pray-ers are well on their way to their reward in heaven.

Who is taking their place? Who will the Lord call on? We cannot do it alone. WE HAVE TO HAVE THIS GENERATION of Intercessors to hear their calling and to take their place ! They HAVE to come in to the Army of God, wherever that is, whatever it looks like as HE PLACES THEM ! And believe me, they will walk in places and ways we never dreamed of…good and bad, BUT WITH HIM. Our part in their lives is to help them get there, just as someone helped you, just as someone helped me.

So, please put this on your “to be continued” prayer list, to continue in the coming weeks & months/years even, to pray over these and their development.

That we can prophetically in prayer, reach back, take them by the hand and throw them forward…that they stand on our shoulders, avoiding some of the pitfalls we endured, and grow quicker and faster than ever before ! Most we will never lay eyes on except by the Spirit thru prayer and intercession. BUT, ask God if there is that one, or two, that you should tuck under your wing and build relationship with and spend time with them, encouraging them, having a cup of coffee and tell them they are doing good and encourage them to keep on tryin’ !! Just as a parent would, push them in the swing until they can learn and build their own muscle to “pump” themselves. And if they skin their knee, pick them up, dust them off, clean the wound and band aid it, then push them back to the “playground” to get on that horse and ride AGAIN!! Wahoo !!

It blesses me so to come to a place the Lord is showing me as I type, full circle. For some of us, we are not only parents, but grandparents, aunts and uncles,,,,,,cuzins. The family of God. How remarkable, how beautiful. I am so glad to be included, aren’t you? And I am so glad to be in it with you !

God bless you as you serve Him in the fields of His Harvest,
Pat Allen

Are you Prepared? Storm Supplies List and Tips to Survive

Hurricane Emergency Kit & Supplies
1. Fill up the bathtub and have a “bucket” ready to use to flush the toilets should the electricity get shut down or the water go off.
2. Cash – credit cards and checks will be useless during a disaster ATM will not be working
3. Make sure to have an old fashioned “land line” phone. The current digital phones require electricity, they will not work. Most times a good old fashioned phone and land line works
4. Peanut butter, crackers and soup — if all else fails you can eat that — Don’t waste money on food you know your family will not choose to eat.
Make sure you pick items with higher protein values and low salt.
5. Water… Lots of water to drink and use to brush your teeth, etc.
6. All your important papers in plastic gallon ziplock bags — Keep Birth Certificates, SS cards & Passports w/current bank statements and House Insurance information.
Keep them in a separate area so they can be taken with you, if you have to evacuate.
7. Candles and/or a couple of hurricane lamps. Flashlights AND batteries — An AM/FM Radio and batteries (one that includes a NOAA Radio is best)
8. If there is a possibility of the electricity going out, do not open the refrigerator unless you have to. A couple days ahead you can freeze gallon jugs of water.
Use a cooler to keep people from going in and out of the freezer or refrigerator, so you will not loose the bulk of all your food supplies.
Move items you just need to keep “Chilled” to the coolers and items that you will be able to use up within 12 hours.
9. PACK a “Go” Bag and/or a Grab & Go Kit Emergency Supplies and Important Info Bag.
“Go” Bag is all our stuff we can’t live without for a week.
You would be surprised what you can forget if you wait.
10. IF YOU LEAVE YOUR HOME, be sure to call your next of kin or relatives or leave them a note. Just in case they come looking for you they can find you if you cannot get back.

Advise from the professionals/ this come from our good friend Kay at HISG

3. A change of clothes and a sleeping bag or bedroll and pillow for each household member.
4. Car keys and keys to the place you may be going.
Make sure everyone in the family has the friend’s or relative’s home number or address — this should be a pre-designated meeting places

Preparing a “Go” Bag

As we reinforced in our last Article, it may become necessary to evacuate from your home immediately. In other words, “sheltering in place” may not be a viable option. In these types of scenarios, it might be necessary to survive away from your home for up to 72 hours or longer without assistance. Being prepared for these kinds of immediate evacuations may mean the difference between life and death.

Therefore, it is necessary that you have everything you need to survive for at least 72 hours in a quickly accessible bag that can be brought with you anywhere. Get a sturdy backpack (CORDURA is a preferred fabric- look for double stitching and durable zippers).

Add the following (as your situation may dictate):
• First Aid Kit – a decent well-stocked kit, including a couple of weeks’ supply of any prescription medications you need. Also include pharmaceutical grade crazy (skin) glue.
• Sewing Kit. Include in this non-waxed floss and a U-shaped leather needle.
• Female Hygiene Pads – these absorb blood – can be used as a bandage if needed and also are sanitary product items if needed.
• Cash – credit cards and checks will be useless during a disaster
• Clothing – cotton is useless once it gets wet (often from sweat). Consider wool
• Blankets – to keep you warm. Consider a Mylar emergency blanket, which is lightweight and packs up small.
• Crank style Flashlight and snap lights such as glow-sticks.
• Whistle – good for locating people in a crowd, at night, or in low visibility conditions. Devise an easy-to-remember signal with family members and loved ones, so that they can recognize your whistle and make their way toward you. Add a lanyard or chain so it’s always with you.
• Crank style weather / AM-FM Radio.
• Food – remember previous article.
• Water – to drink
• Means to purify water (iodine, chlorine, filter, UV light source etc.)
• Goggles – protect your eyes! Best if heavy-duty “soft side” vinyl with ventilation, fogless lenses, and adjustable strap.
• Lighter and matches – don’t use matches (waterproof cases)
• Other Fire starting aids, such as a magnifying glass, magnesium “fire starters”, info to build primitive fire starting devices, similar devices as the need arises. Cotton balls soaked in petroleum jelly are very useful.
• Rope – has endless uses, choose various sizes (rubber bands, too)
• Crow Bar- in case the emergency has caused your path to be blocked.
• Big trash Bags – poncho, cut open to make a tent
• Multi-Use knife/tool.
• Signal Mirror and Flares
• Duct tape
• Plastic sheeting
• Copies of passport, driver’s license, insurance, and any other important documents
• Maps and GPS/Compass
• Toiletries.
• Identification
• Keep a note pad and a pen in case you need to leave a note for family to let them know where you went or where to meet.
• At least one wallet size photo of your immediate family, children, or pets. This is crucial in case you get separated and need to enlist the help of others to find your loved ones.
• Gel antibacterial hand wash (non rinse) available at any pharmacy and most supermarkets and convenience stores, for cleaning hands and even wounds.
• A Comfortable sturdy pair of shoes and a pair of socks.
• A pair of leather work gloves.

The Mystery of the Barbarian Invasions

The Mystery of the Barbarian Invasions

One of the mysteries of history is why, after the Roman Empire accepted Christianity,  God allowed the pagan Germanic people to overrun Christian Western Europe two hundred years later.

The Roman Empire was, of course, not fully Christianized and was suffering from demographic decline and corruption.  The Empire was also weakened militarily and had shifted to defensive posture.  But the real problem was the Church, which had also adopted defensive posture and was no longer focused on taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

With the Church unable and unwilling to move beyond it’s borders, God had to do something.  So he allowed the barbarians to invade the Empire’s borders to bring them into contact with the Church.  Amazingly, the pagan Germanic people came to accept Christianity and became the foundation of Christian Europe.  Thus, the defeat of the Roman Empire actually led to the expansion of the Kingdom of God.

In America we have (so far) been spared from barbarian invasion.  God is continuing to bring people who may be otherwise unreachable into contact with the Church through immigration and student visas. For example, a Pakistani Muslim who has been prevented from hearing the Gospel in his own country can be given the good news about Jesus while working or studying in the United States.  Those who accept Christ can carry the Gospel back to their countrymen,  expanding the Kingdom of God more efficiently than Americans could.

Recently we were presented and excellent tool to present the Gospel by a U.S. ministry,

Christ for All People. They have made Jesus film DVD’s available in many immigrant languages, allowing our immigrant friends to learn about Jesus in their “heart” language. Check out their website at www.christforallpeoples.org

For our part we must remember Peter’s admonition to explain our faith with gentleness and respect. (I Peter 3:15) Christ For All Peoples suggests packaging the Jesus film with other goodies as a Christmas present.

What better time than Christmas to help an immigrant family learn why “Jesus is reason for the season.”

The Day After

The Day After

At a prayer meeting the week before the U.S. Election, Dr. Paul Cedar, President of the Mission America Coalition issued a challenge to the prayer leaders of America.

During the time leading up to the Election numerous prayer initiatives have been undertaken, seeking God’s face for the Election. America was reeling from an economic disaster where Washington, Wall Street, and Main Street had colluded to turn the housing market into a gambling casino. Christian moral values, and even religious freedom itself, had come under attack. Many hoped that the Election would turn things around.

They were wrong. Not because of the outcome of the Election, but because the problem in America is a spiritual problem, not a political problem. Only the Church can make a difference, but the Church itself is infected with the same spiritual malaise which is strangling the Country. What is needed is not a political reform, but humility, prayer, seeking God’s face, and repentance by the Church (see our 9/10 blog “Revisiting The Harbinger”). It is not the outcome of the Election, but the outcome a revival, that will save America.

Dr. Cedar’s challenge was simply this: “What will you do on November 7th?”

Will we quit praying because our candidate won and everything seems OK? Or will we quit praying because our candidate lost and we think all is lost?

The Challenge is to keep praying and seeking God for a real change brought about by a heart change, first in the Church, and then in the Country.

That was Dr. Cedar’s second challenge:

“What would happen if the church quit judging, condemning, and complaining, and instead reached out to people in love?”

What a concept. History is littered with the wreckage of Christian societies which lost their foundation of love. But, if the American Church will go back to the love foundation, we don’t have to join them.

So what are you doing on November 7th?
